STOCKPORT METRO LEAGUE

Home games played Sunday PM                               Home games played at Atax pitch, Bollington

Away games played Sunday AM

12/9/99                     Bollington United    4              Ladybridge County   3

                                                Warm & Sunny. HT = 2-1  (1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2, 3-3, 4-3)

Daz moved from defence to attack for last 10.

Close match against a newsly promoted team giving 100%. Winning goal a controversial penalty given for

‘foul & abusive’ language by County keeper.

19/9/99                     Norbury Moor          6              Bollington                United      0

Damp & cloudy.  HT = 2-0

Daz moved from defence to attack for second half.

Lack lustre display, never really competing.

26/9/99                     Bollington United    3              Poynton                  2

                                                Cloud, sports of rain, sun, warm. HT = 2-1  (0-1, 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2)

                                                Daz defence then midfield.

Poynton pressed hard in first half and should have led at half time. Second half, Boll performed better, with more play in midfield. Carried a number of injuries (Dan, Alex, Nick) and Daz & Jack a bit ill.

3/10/99                     Priory County          1              Bollington United    2

                                                Showers & cloud.   HT = 1-2  (1-0, 1-1, 1-2)     2pm KO

A game which saw full commitment from Bolly, who enjoyed most periods of pressure.  Unlucky to go behind with a well taken shot, but came back and took the lead with a penalty. Second half saw some Priory pressure before Bolly re-asserted themselves.

17/10/99                   Stockport Vikings    1              Bollington United    5

                                                Cool & Sunny. HT = 0-3  (1-3, 1-4, 1-5)    10:50 KO

Daz turn on bench, coming on early in second half..

Good commitment again from team, and lively up front.

12/9/99                     Bollington United    10            Hazel Grove             2

                                                Damp but not raining  HT = 4-1  (0-1, 1-1, 8-1, 8-2, 9-2, 10-2)

Nervous start, conceding early goal slightly against run of play. Missed some chances, but once the equaliser came, it was one-way traffic. Could have added many more.

31/10/99                   Mountfield Rovers   6              Bollington United    2

Damp but no rain.  HT = 3-0

Daz midfield first half, defence second..

Very poor and tired performance, following return from France .

7/11/99                     Bollington United    2              Rose Hill                  3

                                                Damp no rain, cloud.  HT = 1-2  (1-0, 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 2-4)

                                                Daz CH & LB.

Battling performance. Under pressure for long periods but broke well. Hit the woodwork three times and very unfortunate to concede penalty for first half equaliser.  Luck deserted Bolly at key moments.

14/11/99                   Bollington United    1              Reddish Vulcans        2

Wettish pitch, moist air, but rain held off..  HT = 0-0  (0-1, 1-1, 1-2)

Close battle, but game swung at 1-1 when ref awarded a penalty to Vulcans thinking the offence was outside the area. Unlucky defeat.

21/11/99                   Reddish Villa            5              Bollington United    1

                                                Cold day.  HT = 2-0  (3-0, 4-0, 5-0, 5-1)

Villa pressed hard but Boll missed breakaway chances and hit bar.  Always difficult against strong and powerful team, but skillful

nonetheless. Bolly’s goal came in injury time.

28/11/99                   Ladybride                 3              Bollington United    5

                                                V windy.  HT = 1-4  (0-1, 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 2-4, 2-5, 3-5)

                                                Daz RB, CF, Sweeper (MoM).

Bolly built up lead with the wind. Missed pen in first half, but saved one in second..

9/1/00                       Rose Hill                  2              Bollington United    0

Wet boggy pitch, with odd shower.  Daz LB, then M, then CF

Under pressure first half and much of second. Could have taken a point though late on but it was Rose Hill who scored in last

couple of minutes.

 16/1/00                     Bollington United    0              Priory County          3

Cloudy & cold, but decent pitch. HT = 0-0

Bolly withstood periods of pressure, but conceeded the vital first goal with 10-15 minutes to go,

having missed a couple of chances themselves.

23/1/00                     Poynton                  0              Bollington United    3

                                                Cloudy. HT = 0-2

After nervous opening, Bollington dominated for long periods. Many chances squandered, but a fair result.

30/1/00                     Bollington United    4              Stockport Vikings    0

HT = 2-0   Daz turn as sub – cam on 25 mins to go.

Heavy pitch but Bolly generally stronger. Took harder chances and missed easy ones.

20/2/00                     Bollington United    5              Norbury Moor          4

                                                HT = 3-2   (2-0, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2, 4-2, 4-3, 5-3, 5-4)

                                                Daz CF (2 goals)

Good game with some good play and with defensive lapses on both sides.

27/2/00                     Bollington United    9              Mountfield Rovers   1              (1)                   (F (back heel))

Wet surface.  HT = 8-0

Bollington shook Mountfield with an early blitz. Good performances all round

12/3/00                     Hazel Grove             2              Bollington United    4                …played at Bollington

                                HT = 2-1

Bolly shot into an early 2-0 lead, but didn’t make most of other chances. Second half came under some pressure

before conceeding equaliser. Daz moved up front and scored and so moved back again to tighten defence. Late 4th made sure.

6/2/00                       Reddish Vulcans        1              Bollington United    2                        …played at Bollington

Warm day, sunny outbreaks. HT = 1-0

Losing at half time, despite having created a number of opportunities. Battled well in second half, snatching victory in last few seconds.

2/5/00                       Bollington United    1              Reddish Villa            6

Warm sunny Monday evening  HT = 0-2

Villa too strong. Daz took knock just before half time. Alex off injured.

Cup:

5/12/99                     Bollington United    9              Cherry Tree             0

Cold day, slightly soggy pitch. HT  = 6-0.    Daz LB

Boll dominated first half and always looked too strong for Celtic. Many chances went begging, to spare further blushes for Celtic.

6/2/00                       Bollington United    5              Hazel Grove             1

                                HT = 3-0

Bolly took chances well and looked the stronger squad, generally, despite Grove having several very good players.

Quarter Final:

6/2/00                       Bollington United    0              Reddish Vulcans        2

                                HT = 0-0

Poor finishing cost Bollington an easier semi-final against Ladybridge. Clear day on good pitch. Very close match.

One sided game with Bollington storming to big lead in first 20 mins. In second half, experimented with positioning.

COMMENT

Totally one sided game, but with Egerton scoring from their only attack of first half. Bollington’s dominance and superiority marred by very poor finishing, with countless chances missed. However, a very classy performance with many passing moves.

26/10/99                  Ermont (Paris)                           0              Bollington United                    1

Long long search for stadium…. Evening match.  HT = 0-1

Tremendous gritty performance against an excellent team. Under attack for large parts of game, calling for

        strong defending from whole team.

28/10/99                  Beynes FC                                0              Bollington United                    8

More rural location and much easier game.

Once Bollington broke through, there would only be one winner. Good display on a pleasant evening.

Good squad performance. Very tight semi between the two Bolly teams but Bolly A missed 4 pens on the run. Another tight affair in final… another win on pens with first class keeping.
